Austin City Limits Festival
AT&T + SprATX
AT&T, one of the largest sponsors of the festival, teamed up with the SprATX family for the second year in a row and we couldn’t be more grateful to be a part of such a captivating activation. Together we offered ACL attendees their daily dose of art throughout both weekends of the festival. AT&T created the AT&T GigaPower Gallery featuring local artists Grim, G52, Truth, Gent, Lucas Aoki, and Boza
We hope you grabbed a custom drawstring backpack and didn’t miss the sublimation machine in the back of the Gallery as you charged your phone in the shaded tent. It was definitely a cool hangout in between bands, food, and beers. Check out our interview with our friends at AT&T below.
SprATX: How did you first learn about SprATX and how has it been working together on such an extensive activation as ACL and the GigaPower Gallery?
AT&T: In 2014, after we identified live artwork as an ideal focal point for AT&T’s sponsorship with ACL Fest, we began looking for local Austin artists to team up with. After reading some articles online and finding the SprATX website we reached out and the rest is history. SprATX and its network of great artists allowed us to work with 8 artists in a streamlined fashion to bring different art styles and pieces every day to the festival.
SprATX: Explain what happens in the GigaPower Gallery. What did people seem the most excited about?
AT&T: The live artwork was a central focus for the GigaPower Gallery. We had artists featured in front of the gallery, which really intrigued festival attendees and captured their attention as they moved from stage to stage. Austin locals were excited by the opportunity to meet their favorite SprATX artists whose artwork they see and love around Austin. Festival goers also had the opportunity to receive socks and drawstring bags designed with the artist’s work, which was a special way for them to take home a piece of their ACL Fest experience, thanks to AT&T and SprATX.
SprATX: Tell our readers about the art giveaways during the festival to attendees.
AT&T: We knew that fans were going to see the artwork and wonder how they could get a version, so we decided to make the artwork available to them. Fans could win the artwork created at the GigaPower Gallery by earning “social currency” with likes, retweets and favorites on Instagram and Twitter. Fans with 50 or more likes won customized Otterbox phone cases and flip flops, while fans with 100 or more likes won the canvas artwork from the festival.
SprATX: What was AT&T’s goal for this year’s festival activation?
AT&T: AT&T’s goal for this activation was to enhance the festival goers’ experience in a memorable way. By bringing the local artists to the festival, AT&T was able to bridge the gap between two passion points (music & art) and create that one-of-a-kind festival experience.
Activation Details

GigaPower Speed Artists:
Artists ER and Jon McKenzie did 3 speed art sessions during the festival where phone cases and flip flops were custom painted within a large-scale mural and one final session of body painting ACL guests.
Live Painting:
Artists live painted small canvases throughout the entire festival and hung in the Giga Gallery. Canvases provided by Moose Canvas, make sure to check them out!
