From me, probably, already for three days awaiting official comments on the monetization of Web Optimizer, a new site and in general, what happens to the most promising Web-based products this year? And I still can not break through all those tax, legal person, business plans, negotiations with partners and investors, sales, unit testing, and especially GAE. Separation of free and paid versions. Yes, the most-discussed “improving”:) Let me clarify the situation a bit:
The authors have completed the development and decided to cut the dough? Far from it. Current monetization - is long and scheduled step (because we have no funds to develop the product for several years, as did vKontakte before you start twisting banners) to improve the quality of the product. Look at the majority of free tools with open source: almost all of them are developed (if not developed) is extremely sad. One new feature can be added for months. We do not want such an outcome, we want to make our product much better than it is now. And do it for a short time. But this requires at least ten times longer than it already spent. And we will spend this time, but without the financial support it can be done. Therefore, we focus on the market and looking for it support.
Why in the free version so little opportunity? We have analyzed thousands of actual installations of the product and selected the most productive part (one side) and the most configurable and difficult problem (the other). Naturally, we left all the first group and second to make a paid version. The free version is now better than their free counterparts (due to scrupulously prorated algorithm combining files, logic, compression, caching logic and a set of rules for. Htaccess). In fact, we have secured most of the customers from themselves and left the maximum speed for professionals.
More innovations would not? We have very ambitious plans to build an integrated tool to speed up site (most of them have already been announced): This is a literate and processing server side caching at all levels, and maximum improvement of algorithms for files, and a set of profiling tools (functional webo.in), and a set of tools for “manual” optimization, and taking advantage of fast layout, and much more. We are not going to stop there, was just laid some groundwork for future productive work.
Okay, back to new opportunities. Now Web Optimizer is available as a plug-in for Wordpress, Joomla! 1.5, Joomla! 1.0. We work on the integration of Drupal and Bitrix. All plug-ins work the same way: wrapped functional Web Optimizer system calls and interfaces.
Improved compression. Now fully supports gzip, x-gzip, deflate, and x-deflate method. Also made a correct distinction between the level of HTML caching to all these types, which greatly increased the reliability of the product.
Improved caching of static resources. Now the CSS-and Javascript-files can be recorded without additional GET-parameters (required for correct dumping cache). Thus the cache servers proksiruyushchij clog quickly, and the server takes even less traffic.
Many improvements in the logic of CSS Sprites. In particular, the integrated algorithm combining images from SpriteMe, which led to a smaller size of the target files. Also improved algorithm for semi-transparent images for compatibility with weak servers.
Improved algorithm for combining styles. Now they are “broken” (if at all it happens) in units of tens of thousands of cases.
Added tab “Server Configuration” (on the main page). Now you can check all the features of the system can be without additional analysis options and result of their application.
Improved accessibility and ease of use graphical user interface (large number of small innovations, some of which are delivered by two sleepless nights in a row).
Improved “discreet” transformation of Javascript. It now supports more counters and advertising.

Definitely will be processed the current interface (it is now obsolete and require complete replacement, we think about it:), improved caching at the server level, has been rebuilt with the documentation (and now it is a bit messy state) and collected debug-branch (for full debugging applications and then himself sometimes lack).
